Hello everyone. I have arrived safely in Mikinduri. It is located 4.5 hours into the wilderness of Kenya. It is a very beautiful place and the people are amazing. I was quite disappointed that I have not yet seen any elephants or true Kenyan wildlife, but there is an abundance of cows, donkeys, dogs, cats, sheep, goats, and chickens.
For the drive from Nairobi to Mikinduri the MP for the village gave us his own personal car and driver. It was a Toyota 4*4 so our drive was actually quite comfortable. The most disturbing part of the travel was the check stations set up every 30 minutes on the road. They consisted of long pieces of timber with spikes in them places across the road and armed guards at either end. We were informed that they are there simply to check vehicles and to go through all contents of the vehicle should they so desire. However, being in a marked government car, they were not allowed to stop us. We simply waved and continued driving.
The drive was long yet beautiful watching all the Kenyan scenery go by.
